Writing Prompt for the Week of 3/15/2019

Your are renovating an old house near the coast of Maine which will be used as a vacation home. While pulling up some old floor boards you find an unopened linen envelope sealed with a wax crest. You feel the outline of a skeleton key inside the envelope.

A few years ago I started what I hoped to be an online writing group. I had just returned from a Travel Writer's and Photography Conference in San Francisco and was chock full of ideas. After much angst about what I should call the group, I settled upon "Scrappy Scribers".  The concept was this; once per week I would email a writing prompt to whomever was interested, this person would  write about 500 words based on the prompt and then send me their completed essay. At the end of the week, all essays received would be compiled into one document and emailed to the group.  Each person was allowed to select a pen name and write under that name if they chose. This was not required.
