Scrappy Scribers Is Back!!
A few years ago I started what I hoped to be an online writing group. I had just returned from a Travel Writer's and Photography Conference in San Francisco and was chock full of ideas. After much angst about what I should call the group, I settled upon "Scrappy Scribers".
The concept was this; once per week I would email a writing prompt to whomever was interested, this person would write about 500 words based on the prompt and then send me their completed essay. At the end of the week, all essays received would be compiled into one document and emailed to the group.
Each person was allowed to select a pen name and write under that name if they chose. This was not required. Some folks are shy about others reading their work so I thought this would take that fear away and they could then write to their heart's content.
It was an on-again, off-again experience. Writers came and writers went. After a couple of failed attempts at building a group, I stopped. But, along with pausing Scrappy Scribers, I misplaced my own motivation.
It's time for the Phoenix to rise from the ashes! Scrappy Scribers is back though in a slightly different format.
Welcome to the Scrappy Scribers blog where amateur writers, essayists and authors can have their work published.and seen by their peers without spending a dime. And there is no pressure; if you can't write one week, don’t. Just jump on board the next week.
Here's how it works:
- Each Friday evening a writing prompt will be added to this site under a new post titled: Scrappy Scribers Writing Prompt for Week of xx/xx/xx.
- You may elect to have an email sent to you notifying you of this post (by subscribing to this blog) or, if you so choose, you can add a reminder in your calendar to check the site. (There are folks who do not want another email no matter how much fun it is!!)
- You will have until the following Thursday evening at 9:00pm to complete your essay and email it to me at (noel56@aol.com)
- Your email should 1. include the writing prompt in the subject line and 2. include the text of your essay pasted into the body of the email (no attachments please)
- The essays will be posted on the blog that Friday where they can be enjoyed by all.
- You may use whatever name you are comfortable with (either a pen name you've selected or your real name)
- Also, on that same day, the new prompt will be added to the blog. If I use a prompt I found online or in a book, I will give credit to that source as well as a link (if available) should you want to check out more prompts.
- Since your essay will be published in a post, it will give opportunity for some positive feedback (which was not possible in the old format.)
I look forward to putting pen to paper with "Scrappy Scribers" and growing our network of writers and essayists!!!
